BMW is launching the new edition of the 2013 BMW M6 Convertible and Coupe, prepped to reassume their duties as BMW’s two-door M5 alternatives. In practical terms, the new 2013 BMW M6 Convertible is an M5 with half the doors, more of the weight, and none of the roof. Like the latest M5, the new M6 ditches the previous model’s high-revving V-10 engine for a direct-injected, twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8. The motor sport technology in the new BMW M6 paves the way for imposing performance on the race track.
The special body features of the M-versions include the three-piece lower air intake with aerodynamically optimized flap, the new M-Radiator grille with black double rods, flared wheel arches, and the typical gills with integrated turn signal bars, aerodynamic side mirrors and side skirts and an aerodynamic optimized rear apron with diffuser between the right and left mounted twin tailpipes of the exhaust system.
The new BMW M6 Coupe and BMW M6 Convertible are fitted with 19-inch M light-alloy wheels as standard. The forged wheels feature seven double-spokes in a two-tone finish. The optional 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, meanwhile, hint at reduced weight with their five intricate double spokes and allow a clear line of sight through to the powerful braking system.
2013 BMW M6 Engine
The high revving 4.4 liter V8 engine with twin-power turbo technology has an output of 412 kW / 560 hp at 6,000 to 7,000 revolutions per minute. The maximum torque of 680 Nm is available from 1500 rpm available.
BMW claims the M6 coupe reaches 60 mph in about 4.2 seconds and the convertible in 4.3—those figures are likely conservative. For reference, the company projected a 4.4-second 0-to-60 time for the new M5; in our hands, the über-sedan hit 60 in just 3.7 ticks.
